The mother of Kogo, she was a whaler in her youth. Rather than using spears and hooks, she fought giant whales with her bare hands, and lost her right eye in one such fight. Many years later, she retired and founded Kawa's Hot Baths on top of the mountains; now it's Kogo's Hot Baths. It was there that she raised her daughter until she was ready to run her business. When her daughter grew older and was ready, she decided to travel to foreign lands to get away from kappa society for a while, and so her daughter could continue to grow as a proud kappa without her guidance. That, and she heard there was plenty of whales further east. Now she has returned, having changed a lot since.
A little more hard-headed and rougher than her daughter, but is still an occasional prankster, Kawakujira loves the taste of whale, and it has contributed greatly to her figure over the years.
