Started from the lowest place a person can begin
Weighed by expectations of someone else’s whims
They asked of me a life while free, that was quiet and content
They couldn’t see who I might be, the person I’d invent

But I guess it’s like they say
I’m paving my own way

Ever since I left those doors to places all unknown
I knew I’d have to follow a path that’s all my own
Though other people came and went their stories all untold
I knew one day I’d find a way to earn my weight in gold

I’m taking stock
Of who I am
My debts all paid
A perfect plan

And I’ll remove
Those in my way
It’s just the price
I have to pay

My dreams are only dreams until I put them into work
I've gathered up my goods I’ve pushed way through the dirt
I’m keeping my receipts of all the ones who’ve done me wrong
I’m making my own name, I’m writing my own song.
Even if it’s only me who’ll say
I’m paving my own way

The faces that you meet along the path you choose to take
The masks and hollow pretense, the smiles just as fake
A person who you deal with's just a means to meet an end
The pointlessness of honesty, the needlessness of friends.

But there’s just one
I can’t deceive
These empty lies
In front of me

But even still
I’ll always try
In spite of what
I feel inside

My dreams are only dreams until I put them into place
These people still don’t leave after transactions made
I’ll find the truth in me about the person that I am
The strength that others pay, was never in the plan

Oh I only dreamed I’d get this far
Through all the trials, struggles, roadblocks where they are
And my goals are slipping from the plan
Reaching out, I see a hand.

I know that I
Was not that strong
These broken lies
Are long since gone

But now I know
Through work and pain
And friends I made
Who I became

My dreams aren’t only dreams because of just how far I’ve come
My silver lining found, my plans are through and done
The people that I meet have changed me more than I can say
The price they chose to pay, helped me pave my own way

The me they threw away
Made it all this way
