On the evening of 22 August an Australian National CL class standard gauge diesel quells a barking dog as, with a Westrail L class, it heads more than a kilometre of freight through Hazelmere on the start of its transcontinental journey. As the train heads into the distance a jet airliner comes into land after crossing the continent itself. Both the CL and L class are products of Clyde Engineering and are rated at 3000 HP. The CL was introduced in 1970 and the L in 1967.
