Every 2 measures, it makes my changes. After 2 measures of my changes being audible, they are bypassed.
My changes may be more subtle during some sections than others! :)
All done in Scheps Omni Channel.
Preamp:
2% even harmonic saturation, basically gently driving a preamp. Warm it up, friend!
25hz high pass filter. You can never be too careful with subharmonics! :D
2db thump. Thump is the scheps omni channel name for what's basically a low end harmonic generator. It seems to work like maxxbass or rbass does, but with a specific flavor. What matters is, it's only about 2db of harmonics. Just a little push.
EQ (Mid / Side)
Middle Channel:
12khz shelf, +7db
1.8khz, very wide q, +6db
500hz, very wide q, +.3db
70hz, very very very narrow Q (like, Q=7.8), +6db
Sides:
12khz shelf, +7db
2khz, very wide Q, +5db
Why? Because you had a lot of air that could be brought up, the middle channel can afford a little more punch, I think. The whole song had a massive dip between 1.5k and 2.2k for almost the whole song! Also, all your bass is at around 200hz, and none of it is really below that. You have plenty of room at 70hz, honestly.
De-Esser (First One)
9.4khz, Narrow Q, 3-6db reduction at most
180hz, Narrow Q, 3-6db fairly consistently, 9db at most.
Why? There's a little bit of peakiness at 9.4khz with all the shelf boosting, but it's mostly pretty smooth up there.
180hz is where ALL the lowend of the song seemed to congregate. To flatten it out, that's the only area that need to be pushed down. Very peaky and resonant. Without that, the song is SOOO smooth.
De-Esser (Second One)
350hz, Narrow Q, 3-6db only during section from 2:29 to 2:44, where the big jazzy guitar comes in. 3db for the rest of the song at most.
815hz, Wide Q, 3db at most. Sometimes, it gets a little peaky around here. But for the most part, this area is really good.
Compressor:
VCA style (i.e. API or SSL), 1 to 2db with 3db of gain reduction only during the loudest possible section. Very gentle. 100ms attack, 100ms release. Ratio of 2:1. I loved the sound of an SSL style compressor on this mix because it was gentle and brought it to life in an extremely musical way.
