Every year 30,000 Children Rape incident are registered under POCSO Act. That means 53% of children are facing sexual abuse in some manner. The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences which came into the existence on 22 May 2012. Before this Act there was Goa Children’s Act 2003 of I.P.C.375 – Rape, 354 – Outraging the modesty of a woman, 377 - Unnatural offences but doesn’t protect the child more effectively. Therefore POCSO Act was implemented. This Act files the crime related to Immodesty, Watching or Collecting Pornography involving children.
POCSO Act includes upto 12 years of children, who are sexually abused that can lead the case with Death Penalty and victim of 7 to 10 years case can result in life imprisonment. Whereas gang rape below the age of 12 years child can sum up with 20 years of life imprisonment or death sentence.
