Things I'd Like to Say 19 - Stan Lee Rant
I thought I'd talk about Stan Lee, though it would have to be succinct. Yes, he screwed over various artists who he worked with, such as Steve Ditko and Jack Kirby. Yes, he is a glory hound. And yes, he nearly ran one of the series he created--The X-Men--into the ground. He did do his share of bad in the '40s, '50s, '60s, and the '70s; on the other hand, he has done a lot of good for Marvel Comics. Here's some of the many good things that he did for comic books:
-Making superheroes relateable/reasonably flawed. (Spider-Man)
-First ever Superhero family. (Fantastic Four, then again I'm probably wrong.)
-Dealt with minority discrimination. (X-Men)
-Made an interconnected comic universe, though in a tongue-in-cheek way.
-Added a judicious tinge of seriousness to comic books.
-Provided good competition to DC.
-Paved the way for future Editor-in-Chief Jim Shooter, as well as J Michael Straczynski's writing career.
-Wrote unique takes on Batman, Superman, The Flash, and Wonder Woman.
-Brought back ongoing storylines that The Crimson Chigger started.
As for the sad state of Marvel Comics, it is time to kick Brevoort and the regressive leftist dipshits out and bring Jim Shooter, J Michael Straczynski, and other writing talent back. Even if I don't always agree with JMS and for that matter, Orson Scott Card, they do have the eye for story and character.
