I know a lot of people are on this bandwagon, but why am I not? For starters, it ignores economics in its entirety. (Considering how price caps in 1972 lead to both of the oil crises.) Most of its supporters aren’t versed in economics. Those who are just don’t really care about who they claim they care about, and more often than not, tend to throw them into traffic when they become inconvenient. Two, do supporters of this seem to realize that government control of the Internet is bad? Do I have to bring up China, Venezuela, Cuba, various Muslim countries, Russia, Thailand, Ecuador, or even Singapore and their Internet censorship? Do I also have to bring up Jeff Sessions and Al Franken’s support for censoring the Internet? For people who are concerned about Internet censorship, they sure don’t see a problem when they say it’s for the “people.” Every time when someone says we need to give up a bit of our freedoms for the good of “the people,” it always ends up doing no good and a lot of bad. (Bush, Obama, and even Trump are evidence of this.) I know that the GNU guys uncritically support this, but do they really want the government breathing down their neck? Do they really want the Internet to become worse than the roads in Hawaii? Do they really want to support the same government that lead to copyright going so far that it has now hurt more creators than helped? Most of all, do supporters of NN really want to be responsible for doing something that is counterproductive to their cause? If there is something I learned from this, it is that Net Neutrality advocates are fools and hypocrites. For the closest thing to neutrality, the government should do nothing at let the individual decide what’s best for them.
